exhibited at safe house 1&2 in collaboration with maverick project

a conceptual sci-fi graphic novel made as a visual exploration of my research on disability representation in media and visualising chronic illness in genre, specifically in fantasy and sci-fi, i based my personal brief around this quote from disabled essayist Jane Stemp:

“able-bodied writers are presenting disability in terms of its opposite: setting up the choice as if, indeed, it were a genuine one. I await a "high" fantasy book in which a character with disabilities is part of the story without comment or the burden of symbolism; a science fiction book in which the technological environment includes the disabled life-style instead of modifying the disabled body.”
